"A Valuable Lesson Learned" cont.
"For
the eight years I've owned this old radio, I could only listen to it in the
morning. It's an AM radio, you see. I can't turn the radio on after 12 noon
because I don't have FM."
Now in shock, I realized the need to explain the difference between FM and PM.
After listening to my speech for about 30 minutes, she looked at me and asked,
“Are you sure I can listen to the new radio in the afternoon”? I
assured her it was safe.
So you see, my fine fellow sales and marketing associates: Never assume your
target audience understands the lingo, the jargon, the buzz words, or the abbreviations
we throw at them. Be sure to offer as much information and explanation as possible.
Especially with the next-generation consoles soon to launch, there will no doubt
be even more confusing abbreviations added to our vocabulary.
Of course, the debate continues as to whether the ESRB rating of “AO”
means "Adults Only" or "An Old game revitalized to sell another
million units."
By the way, what do AM and FM stand for?
Happy selling!
